About the Creator:

Fatima is originally from Eritrea At the age of 16, she was forced to flee her country after members of her family were threatened and some killed Fatima spent 30 years in various refugee camps in Sudan where she had 7 children Fatima arrived in the US along with her children in 2016 Fatima enjoys coming to OWC to get out of the home and gain sewing experience

 

About Our Woven Community:

These beautiful, one-of-a-kind items are made by refugee women who have been resettled to Bridgeport, Connecticut. Through the Our Woven Community program, refugee women learn how to sew and are able to earn a small income. Each item is made with one piece of African fabric along with other designer donated fabric and is tagged with the story of the artist who made it. They are beautiful and make an incredible gift!

All proceeds from the sale of this item goes to the Our Woven Community artists and program through the Burroughs Community Center in Bridgeport, CT
